Cistanche is a genus of deserts plants in the Orobanchaceae family. They are holoparasitic plants which means that they obtain water and nutrients from the roots of host plants that they parasitize.
Cistanche is said to have been used as a remedy in Traditional Chinese Medicine for about 1800 years and is recorded in the Shennong Bencao Jing and Bencao Gangmu as a tonic. It may help support healthy libido, kidney and liver function, optimal energy levels, and strengthen the back and knees.
