Fenbendazole (often abbreviated "FBZ") is used in both large and small animals. In dogs, it is useful against roundworms, hookworms, and the more difficult to treat whipworms. It is effective against the Taenia species of tapeworm but not against the Common tapeworm, Dipylidium caninum. It is also effective against Giardia (an intestinal protozoan which is contagious to both humans and pets) as well as several species of lungworm and even some flukes.

Benzimidazole is a broad-spectrum, efficient and low toxic benzimidazole insecticide. It has a strong affinity with tubulin in structure. It can prevent the polymerization of microtubules by affecting cell transport and energy metabolism, and finally destroy the integrity of insect cells and the function of energy transfer chemicalbook. Benzimidazole is used to drive and kill animal gastrointestinal parasites. It not only has high insect repellent activity against Ascaris lumbricoides, hookworm, whipworm, some tapeworms and round nematodes in animal gastrointestinal tract, but also has good curative effect on some bronchial trees and pulmonary parasites (feline Pneumocystis and Paragonimus)
